MAKURDI – The Benue state Police Command has confirmed that four if its personnel had gone missing and unaccounted for after they came under heavy attack by suspected herdsmen at Ayilamo in Logo local government area of the state. Vanguard gathered that the security personnel were ambushed by the well armed herdsmen which which led to a heavy exchange of gunfire. In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses Yamu, the affected personnel came under heavy gunfire by the suspected herdsmen in the area while on patrol.
The statement reads in part “The Command would like to report that in furtherance of its confidence building strategy and strengthening its visibility, Police Mobile Force Teams conducted a robust patrol of Ayilamo in Logo local government area. “However, on their way back to their camp at about 1430hrs, they came under heavy attack of a fully armed group suspected to be herdsmen. “In the ensuing gun battle, one of the Police patrol vans caught fire.
Effort is ongoing to locate Four of the Policemen who were not seen after the attack while head count was conducted. “Casualty on the side of the insurgents is being ascertained. The Police by this will not be deterred or relent in its effort to ensure adequate security in areas under threat in the State.” The command added that the search for its missing personnel was ongoing.
